Windows Defender Installation Error: Could not access network location

Last Updated: 2006-11-30

When I tried to install Windows Defender on a customer's Windows XP Pro SP2 machine I received the following error message when the setup checked for HD space: "Could not access network location \\Server\Shared Docs\My Pictures"

I fixed it by .....
1) Click Start => Run => type => regedit
2) Goto
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders
3) Change My Pictures to %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures

I found the path by searching the registry for \\Server, the location above was the only one associated with My Pictures.

No need to reboot, run Windows Defender setup again.
